My Favorite Things: Summer 2022
In 2002, I started PK with an email newsletter called “My Favorite Things”. I carried on for a few years but stopped because I just didn’t know what to do with it to grow it further.
To celebrate 20 years of PK, I’ve decided to bring back an abbreviated version of My Favorite Things by sharing five of my favorites for each month.
So what was I obsessed with this summer? Let’s find out!
(Note: None of these items are sponsored. These are truly things I’ve enjoyed this month.)
Uma Pure Rest Wellness Oil ($49 for 15ml)
I add this oil to my night cream and every time I slather it on to my face, I let out a sigh of pure delight. It smells so good and clean and spa-like. I’m obsessed! Adding an oil to your night cream is perfect because sleep is such a restorative process for your skin (and mind, body, soul). It’s just going to drink in all those beautiful, natural ingredients. As your skin ages, it needs so many more nutrients to retain…well, all the things. Give it a whirl! (You won’t be sorry!)
Reading
EVERYONE is reading books right now! I love it so much. There is booktok, book club fever (I’m in 4!) and a fun new pastime called “Blind Date with a Book.” As an avid reader my entire life, I am thrilled that reading is having its chic moment in the spotlight. Although many people read on an electronic device, it seems actual paper books are preferred by many right now. It’s a beautiful thing. Gift my version of Blind Date with a Book to your favorite bookworm today!
Acorn TV
As for most of the world this summer, it has been insanely HOT, not to mention COVID is being a big bitch again so I’ve been indoors working (prepping for the holidays), READING and watching every comfy, cozy show I can get my hands on. Acorn TV is the mothership of cozy shows as it is home to many a British/European murder mystery series like Midsomer Murders, Agatha Raisin, Queens of Mystery and Keeping Faith. Honestly, it’s my hygge.
Hemp Hearts ($11.19 for 8 oz)
These are packed with protein and are a great substitute for breadcrumbs when cooking. I don’t eat a lot of meat so I’m always looking for solid protein sources and with 10 grams of protein in three tablespoons, these pack a punch. I’ve put them in my oatmeal, used them for filler in crab cakes and topped a beautiful summer garden vegetable gratin with a mixture of parsley, parmesan and these little nuggets. It was heavenly.
Kitsch x Stranger Things Rainbow Room Satin Sleep Set ($34.99)
If you don’t know how I feel about Stranger Things, please go back and read May’s Favorite Things blog post. It'll sum it right up for you.
When I saw this, I knew I had to carry it because teenage PK would have wanted it so badly. It’s a satin pillow case and a satin sleep mask designed in conjunction with the critically important, kooky-crazy Rainbow Room from Season 4. (Note the background pattern is from the hospital gowns. Chef's Kiss!)
